Troops of the 611 Infantry Brigade, under the 61 Infantry Division of the Security Force (West), collaborated with the People's Bank Regional Head Office in Kegalle to construct a new house for a needy family residing in Eriyagoda Grama Niladari Division, Rambukkana. The beneficiary, Mrs. K.A. Nilimini Dilrukshi, a mother of three children, had been living without a proper shelter or a source of income since her husband's untimely death due to a vehicle accident. The troops identified her dire situation and decided to take action.
Accordingly, the Commander of the 611 Infantry Brigade reached out to the People's Bank Regional Head Office in Kegalle, and together they secured the necessary funds and resources for the construction of the house. The technical expertise of the 8 Battalion Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment and 8 Battalion Gemunu Watch troops under 611 Infantry Brigade was enlisted to erect the house.
On 06 July 2023, which coincided with the 62nd anniversary of the People's Bank, a brief ceremony was held to officially hand over the new house to Mrs. K.A. Nilimini Dilrukshi. The event was attended by the Commander Security Forces (West), General Officer Commanding 61 Infantry Division, Commander 611 Infantry Brigade, respective Commanding Officers, and officials of the People's Bank Regional Head Office, Kegalle.
At the same time, as a gesture of support, the beneficiary and her children were also presented with furniture items and gifts from Army personnel and officials of the People's Bank. Furthermore, the Army personnel involved in the construction of the house were recognized for their dedication and commitment with certificates of appreciation.
Moreover, this house construction was carried out under the guidance of the Commander of Security Forces (West) and with the blessings of the Commander of the Army.
Further, this collaborative effort between the military and the People's Bank has brought much-needed relief a safe and secure shelter.
