143 INFANTRY BRIGADE TROOPS ORGANIZE A DANSALA FOR DEVOTEES IN LINE WITH THE VESAK FESTIVAL

‘Bath Dansala’ is a popular Buddhist tradition where free meals and refreshments are offered to the public, regardless of their religion or social status. The aim of this initiative was to promote communal harmony and cooperation among the people, especially during the Vesak Festival, which is celebrated by Buddhists worldwide.

Accordingly, officers and all ranks of 143 Infantry Brigade, 16 Battalion Gajaba Regiment and 1 Sri Lanka National Guard conducted a ‘Bath Dansala’ on 05 May 2023, at the 143 Infantry Brigade Headquarters, Sellakandawatta, Puttalam. Thereby, troops volunteered their time and resources to prepare a variety of mouthwatering spread of Sri Lankan dishes with rice and traditional curries, which were served to more than 3500 devotees who were going on pilgrimage in and around the Puttalam area during the Vesak festival. The event was organized in a well-coordinated manner to ensure that everyone received a meal and was satisfied.

The event was not only a success in terms of feeding the devotees, but it also showcased the Army’s commitment to serving the community. The initiative received a positive feedback from the public, who appreciated the gesture and expressed their gratitude towards the Army personnel.

Further, it is important to highlight such events that demonstrate the Army’s involvement in community service and their dedication to promoting peace and harmony among all communities. Such initiatives not only benefit the public but also help to build a positive image of the Army in the eyes of the people they serve.

Similarly, this charitable project was totally monitored by the respective Commanding Officers and the Commander, 143 Infantry Brigade with the guidance of 14 Infantry Division and supervision and the direction of the Commander Security Forces (West).
