WEST TROOPS OFFER EMERGENCY SUPPORT FOR HOSPITALS ON STRIKE

The Commander Security Forces (West)Major General D M K D B Pussella RWP RSP ,on the directions of Lieutenant General H L V M Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army, instructed the respective General Officer Commandings of 14 and 61 Infantry Divisions to provide the needy assistance in order to maintain essential health services due to a strike over trade union issues of several sections at the hospitals that are located in the Security Forces (West) Area of Responsibility by employing Army troops as requested by the hospital authorities on 15 March 2023.

Accordingly, A group of about 35 Army personnel from 1 Sri Lanka Pioneer Corps under command to 612 Infantry Brigade, which belongs to 61 Infantry Division, offered their assistance to the management of Horana District Hospital and Panadura Base Hospital in Kalutara District.

Meanwhile, Army personnel from the 2(V) Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry of 144 Infantry Brigade under 14 Infantry Division and School of Military Engineering also extended their assistance to cover the essential duties of Colombo East Base Hospital (CEBH), Mulleriyawa and Embilipitiya Base Hospital, respectively.

Further, respective Brigade Commanders and Commanding Officers closely monitored the Army’s employment.
