The Army personnel has swiftly organized to provide assistance to extinguish a fire that suddenly broke out in the morning on 26 August 2022 in Muthurajawela Wetland forest reserve at general area Pubudugama of Wattala Divisional Secretariat.
Soon after the fire was alerted, the instructions given by the Commander Security Forces (West), a contingent of Army personnel belongs to the 8 Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry of Security Forces (West) rushed to the venue to prevent the spreading of the fire to other areas and provided their utmost assistance to extinguish the fire completely.
Meanwhile, a water bowser and two fire extinguishers from the Navy, two helicopters from the Air Force have been provided and Disaster Management Centre Gampaha and Divisional Secretariat Wattala have also contributed their maximum effort to fight the fire.
Further, burning continued till 27 afternoons and it was completely extinguished by the evening. Approximately, this fire has been caused damage 80 acres of the land.
