Lance Corporal Witharana who belongs to the 3(v) Battalion Gamunu Watch under 613 Infantry Brigade of Security Forces (West) found a wallet of Mr. Bandula Disanayake, a government teacher, residing at Agunegoda, Nahugama, Akuressa, while performing duties at the welfare shop at 3 (V) Battalion Gamunu Watch Mathara on 23 May 2022.
The wallet had been contained a cash cheque worth of Rs. 183,000.00, cash worth of Rs.41,300.00 and personal documents including the phone number. Further, the wallet had been fallen to the ground where the owner was sitting at the welfare shop and after said soldier worked in the welfare shop had picked it up and handed it over to the rightful owner after making a call to the phone number that had mentioned in the wallet. At that time, the relevant soldier embodied values of integrity and honesty, saying “the amount is really a huge sum of money and if I was the one who lost it I would also be embarrassed. Being a father of two children it is not ethical to have your money and enjoy it with my family. So, gentlemen take care of your valuables”.
Lance Corporal Witharana has surely exemplified the core values of the Army and the presence of such great soldiers is a blessing to the entire Army and the Motherland.
