On Monday (28) morning, responding to the need of immediate action, troops of the 1 SLNG under the 14 Infantry Division of the Security Forces (West) rushed to the hills behind the Dagama primary school, Polpithigama area, and assisted in dousing a bush fire which was continuing to fast spread from yesterday midnight (27).
Request made by the Polpithigama Police, a contingent of 10 Army personnel of 1 SLNG, along with SL Navy and members of the wildlife department hurried to the scene and commenced work to bring the situation under control with the support of some volunteers in the area.
The fires were totally brought under control within a few hours before more damage was caused to the rest of the forest reserve.
Approximately, the fire has caused damages to ten acres of the entire forest reserve.
