144 INFANTRY BRIGADE CONDUCTED A SHRAMADANA CAMPAIGN OF AWARIYAHENA AREA

Strengthening the concept of the Green Agriculture project which was implemented by the Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army General L H S Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil in order to promote Eco – friendly sustainable farming by growing a nation producing Non – Toxic food, the irrigational canal at Awariyahena Paddy Field was cleaned by the troops of 2 (V) Sri Lanka Light Infantry Battalion on 5th March 2022 under the close supervision of the Commander 144 Infantry Brigade Colonel K M V Kodituwakku with the guidance of General Officer Commanding of 14 Infantry Division Maj Gen A K G K U Gnanarathne ndu psc.

According to the two days of discussion with the farmers of Averiyahena Grama Niladari Division in the area on 08.02.2022 and 19.02.2022, has been requested them to repair the canal which was a problem for them to get water to the farmlands. This irrigational canal consists of 1.5 Km and supplies water to approximately 25 Acres in the Awariyahena Paddy field. Therefore, this task was implemented due to the requestion of the farmers in the Averiyahena area and it will be benefited their farming at Yala Kannaya.

General Officer Commanding of 14 Infantry Division Maj Gen A K G K U Gnanarathne ndu psc RSP, Commander 144 Infantry Brigade Colonel K M V Kodituwakku, Chairman of Rural Security Committee, Secretary of Agrarian Society and farmers of the area participated at the event.
