With the cooperation of the Divisional Secretariat – Beruwala, troops of 12 Field Engineer Regiment and 1 Sri Lanka Army Pioneer corps of the 612 Infantry Brigade under command to the 61 Infantry Division of the Security Forces Headquarters (West) cleaned the surrounding of the coastal belt area from Panadura to Beruwala covering highly-polluted coastal areas, littered with discarded wrappers, polythene, plastic bottles, empty beer cans, empty liquor bottles, etc. on 05 March 2022.
This programme was carried out on the direction of the Commander Security Forces (West) Major General K Liyanage RWP RSP ndu under close supervision of the General Officer Commanding of 61 Infantry Division Major General D B S N Bothota RWP RSP USP psc together with the Commander of 612 Infantry Brigade.
Further, This beach cleaning programme has been organized with the intention of creating an attitudinal awakening of the general public and making them recognize the value of coastal and marine resources while attracting community contribution for beach clean-up efforts. More than 30 Army troops and the general public in the area actively participated at the event.
