ARMY ACTIVELY SUPPORTS TO CONSTRUCT A BRIDGE COLLAPSED AT MATHARA

The bridge which linked the Pigeon Island and Matara, is known as one of the most famous bridges in Sri Lanka, has collapsed on 4 March 2022 evening. Subsequently, troops of 3 (v) Battalion of Gamunu watch, with the assistance of the SL Navy and the Disaster management centre, were immediately activated and rescued the people who were crossing the bridge.

Accordingly, with the direction of the General L H S C Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, troops from 3(v) Battalion Gamunu watch, Sri Lanka Army Field Engineers, Engineer Service Regiment actively contributing their effort to construction of a temporary bridge.

Further, the bridge is being constructed under the guidance and supervision of the Chief Field Engineer of the Sri Lanka Army, General Officer Commanding of Engineer Division, Commander of General Engineer Brigade, Commander of 613 Infantry Brigade and Commanding Officer of 3(v) Battalion Gamunu Watch.
