Troops of 8 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (8 SLSR) of the 611 Infantry Brigade in the 61 Infantry Division under the Security Forces (West) constructed a new house for a low income family having a disabled child in Arandara, Kegalle in collaboration with the MTV/MBC, ‘Sirasa’ Media network through its ‘Sirasa Niwasa’ project on the directions given by General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army after the project sponsors sought the Army assistance in this regard.
After the miserable plight of poverty-stricken Mr Roshan Wickramasinghe’s living condition was brought to the notice, the sponsors in order to mitigate the costs turned to the Commander of the Army in search of Army manpower and their construction skills for erection of this much-needed house.
The Commander Security Forces (West) Major General D G S Senarath Yapa RWP RSP ndu graced the auspicious inaugural house-warming as the Chief Guest together with the Group Director of Electronic Media at the Capital Maharaja Organization Mrs Needra Weerasinghe, on 30 November 2021.
In accordance with ancient traditions, the day's Chief Guest and the sponsors at the auspicious minute unveiled the plaque, joined oil-lamp lighting and Boiling Milk rituals, amidst religious observances together with beneficiaries while the recipient's relatives were looking on.
Similarly a pair of catchers have been donated to a disabled child who belongs to in that family by Security Forces Headquarters (West) and it is specially mentioned the contribution of Mr. H E Ekanayaka who donated 10.07 perches for this charity as a neighbor of this low income family.
