The frequency of natural disasters has increased significantly around the world. Simultaneously Sri Lanka is prone to natural disasters such as floods, cyclones, landslides and coastal erosion with increasing losses to life and property.
In the present day contest Sri Lanka Army is playing a significant role in rescuing and evacuating civilians from natural disasters. Therefore, with the intention of the Commander Security Forces (West) Major General D G S Senarath Yapa RWP RSP ndu, organized a one day workshop on ‘Disaster Preparedness and mitigation in Sri Lanka’ at the Security Forces Headquarters (West) conference hall on Wednesday (17).
The director of Mitigation, Research and Development Miss Anoja Senevirathne and Military Coordinator from Disaster Management Centre in Sri Lanka Capt (SSD) N H S Perara RWP USP psc Msc (DS) Mgt BSc (DS) Mech Eng conducted the workshop covering some salient aspects in including Disaster Risk Management Framework, Understanding Disaster Risk, Disaster Risk Governance, Disaster Risk Sensitive Investment, Preparedness for Response Rehabilitation Reconstruction, Recovery, following BBB principle and emergency response mechanism of Sri Lanka etc.
The staff Officers of the Security Forces Headquarters (West), Deputy Centre Commandants, Senior Officers and Officers belongs to Security Forces (West) physically and virtually participated through the zoom platform at the workshop.
