Upon the request made by the Director Teaching Hospital Karapitiya, as per the directions promulgated by the Head, National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army General Shavendra Silva, Major General D G S Senarathyapa RWP RSP ndu, Commander Security Force (West) along with the close supervision of the General Officer Commanding of 61 Infantry Division Major General D G Hewage RSP coordinated the task in order to provide a quick response to strengthen the capacity of the health care system, a newly improvised ICC which built within a short stretch of time was handed over to The Director of Teaching Hospital Karapitiya on 05th August 2021.
The newly constructed Intermediate Care Center, which is housed on the second floor of a building housed in the Teaching Hospital Karapitiya comprises of two separate wards for male and female infectees. It has the capacity to treat a total of 120 patients. The ICC is fully equipped with all the necessities. It is noteworthy that the building was converted by the short period of time by the troops of ESR of 61 Infantry Division altogether with the troops of the 14th Gamunu Watch.
The General Officer Commanding of 61 Infantry Division and The Director Teaching Hospital Karapitiya appreciated the troops who rendered their labour assistance and tremendous support to make this a success. Subsequently, 100 beddings were handed over to be used in newly improvised Care Center for the betterment of the patients.
The General Officer commanding 61 Infantry Division, the Brigade Commander of 613 Infantry Brigade, other senior officers along with the staff of the Teaching Hospital Karapitiya graced the occasion.
