Troops of 1 Sri Lanka National Guard Battalion converted a Building at wayamba teaching Centre Kurunegala to serve as a Quarantine Centre in the event of any surge of infectees of the virus.
The new QC would be able to accommodate over 150 persons. Its improvisation was carried out in coordination with health and local authorities as per the guidelines given by Major General Vikum Liyanage, Commander, Security Forces-West.
Commander, Security Forces – West visited Kurunegala area and the newly renovated centre on 17 June 2021. During the visit, he inspected the facilities available at the new Quarantine Centre and instructed the Commander 143 Infantry Brigade and the Commanding Officer of 1 Sri Lanka National Guard Battalion on its further facilitations.
During the visit Commander SF - West discussed the present COVID situation of the area with provincial director of health services North western province Dr. Sampath Indika, Chief Secretary of the North western province Mr.PBM Sirisena and co-presidents of the development committees of Kurunegala and puttalam districts. They appreciated the commitment and proper coordination of troops with respective government authorities of the area in controlling COVID - 19.
This conversion process started on the directions of General Shavendra Silva, Head of the National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID -19 Outbreak, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army with close cooperation and coordination of Major General Vikum Liyanage, Commander, Security Forces-West.
