TROOPS IN DISASTER RELIEF WORK RECOVER DEAD TEENAGER & BURIED ADULT
Troops of 8 Gemunu Watch under command to 611 Infantry Brigade of 61 Infantry Division under the Security Force Headquarters - West rushed to Ratnapura, Dumbara, Ihalapola area on 04 June to rescue a family, affected by minor earthslips and torrential rains.
Troops trekked along the affected areas, clearing obstacles on their way amidst torrential rains and rescued a 50-year old woman, trapped in a mound of earth and took her to the closest Kiriella Hospital.
Afterwards, Committed Army troops with unfailing effortscontinued their search & rescue missions in and around the area, affected by the earthslip and recovered a dead body of a 17-year old young girl, caught in the disaster.
The rescue and relief operation was done on the instructions of Major General VikumLiyanage, Commander Security Forces – West and with the supervision of General Officer Commanding, 61 Infantry Division , Commander 611 Infantry Brigade and commanding officer 8 Gemunu Watch in coordination with villagers.
