The 61 Division's new General Officer Commanding (GOC), Major General K.H.P.P Fernando assumed duties on Wednesday (4) at the 61 Division Headquarters in Boossa.
A formal Guard Turnout saluted the new GOC upon his arrival at the Division Headquarters premises, followed by a Guard of Honour in keeping with military traditions.
Afterwards, amid religious blessings, he signed an official document and symbolized the acceptance of his new office.
Later, he was invited to plant a Mango sapling in the premises as a symbol of memory. After a while, he addressed all ranks and explained his vision for conduct of duties and roles in the 61 Division.
Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers, Officers and Other Ranks serving under the 61 Division were associated with the occasion.
