Major General Mahinda Mudalige assumed duties on Monday (02) as the new Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) at the SLAVF Headquarters in Kosgama. He is also the Commander, Security Forces - West as at present.
Major General Mahinda Mudalige at the entrance to the SLAVF Headquarters was greeted to a Guard Turnout and ushered afterwards to receive honours in the Guard of Honour accorded in connection with his assumption of new office.
A few minutes later, the new Commandant entered his office and observed religious observances. After Major General Mudalige offered the tray of betel as a formality to the members of the Maha Sangha, he participated in a brief blessing ceremony.
Members of the Maha Sangha while chanting ‘Seth Pirith’ invoked blessings on the new appointment as the new Commandant symbolically left his signature for an official document to signify the acceptance of his new office and joined to light up the traditional oil lamp.
A few minutes later, Major General Mahinda Mudalige added memories planting a sapling in the premises before he addressed All Ranks serving the SLAVF and joined for all ranks tea.
Deputy SLAVF Commandant, Major General L.F Kasthuriarachchi, Senior Officers and a gathering of Officers and Other Ranks were present.
