Tree Planting Project of the SFHQ-West Goes to Schools

One more phase of the \"Gasin Piri Ratak-Wipath Nethi Hetak\" (A Country Filled with Trees & a Tomorrow without Natural Disasters) project, aimed at planting trees across the coastal belt from the south to the northwestern areas got underway at four separate places on Tuesday (15) on the directions of Major General Ubaya Medawala, Commander, Security Force Headquarters, West (SFHQ-West). The programme covered planting of more than 350 saplings of fruits and other shady trees in the premises of Panangala Maha Bodhi Vidyalaya, Panangala Junior School (West), Halvitigala Sariputhra Maha Vidyalaya and Panangala Junior School with the participation of school students, together with education, environmental, conservation authorities and a gathering of senior officers, including General Officer Commanding and Deputy General Officer Commanding, 58 Division, Commanders of 581,583 Brigades of the SFHQ-West. Divisional Secretariat in Thawalama extended its support for the success of the project. As a national initiative of the SFHQ-West, the programme is expected to plant tree saplings in 287 selected state land slots, covering Southern, Western, Sabaragamuwa and Wayamba (North Central) provinces under this project. Prioritized attention would be focused on the coastal belt which remains badly affected due to coastal erosion.
