Troops on Round the Clock Flood Relief Duties

Disaster relief teams of the Sri Lanka Army in the North, Wanni and the Eastern Provinces, despite risks involved in rescue and relief operations, are continuing their good Samaritan roles in the midst of ravaging waters and torrential rains in the past 24 hours. As late as Monday (22) evening, 143 Brigade troops of the Security Force Headquarters-Wanni (SFHQ-W) rushed to the rescue of more than 83 families in Elawankulam and Manatu areas in the Puttalam District who remained cut off due to flood waters, surrounding their villages. They were immediately relocated to the Elawankulam Muslim college and the Manatu Church as temporary measures. Troops belonging to several Battalions, Brigades and Davison under Security Force Headquarters-Wanni (SFHQ-W), Security Force Headquarters-East (SFHQ-E) and Security Force Headquarters-West (SFHQ-West) are round the clock working in flood-affected areas under the close supervision of respective SFHQs Commanders, General Officers Commanding, Brigade Commanders and Unit Commanders. Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army has been in touch with respective authorities, giving necessary instructions.
