Western Troops & Civilians Join \'Sil\' Observance Programme
A Sil observance programme to coincide with the Army Day and the 65th Anniversary, was launched by the Security Force Headquarters - West (SFHQ-West) on Wednesday (8) Full Moon day with the participation of hundreds of youths and troops.
Initiated by Major General U.A.B Medawela, Commander, SFHQ-West, the project got underway at the Sri Purwarama Viharaya at Ganegama, Aluthgama.
A total of 500 young men of all faiths, together with members of the Army observed those precepts on the Poya day. During the Sil programme, a booklet authored by late Ven Rerukane Chandawimala Nayake Thero was also distributed among the attendees.
On the directions of the Commander of the Army, the programme was launched in order to develop spiritual capacity of soldiers as well as young people in the area, irrespective of their ethnic or religious differences.
