WEST TROOPS STANDBY TO MEET INCLEMENT WEATHER RELATED EMERGENCIES

With the torrential rains which have resulted in flash floods and landslides, and Security Forces (West) troops are continuously backing the on going rescue flood relief operations in the affected areas in liaison with the sister services and the Disaster Management Centre.

Accordingly, a water leak has occurred on the canal bund which is running to Bathalagoda tank in Ibbagamuwa Grama Niladari Division in Kurunegala District due to heavy rains. 5 Sri Lanka Armoured Corps troops with the support of villagers have assisted to recover the leak on the canal bund using sand bags on 31 May 2021. Request made by the villagers, the Commanding Officer of 5 Sri Lanka Armoured Corps and his troops rushed to the location within minutes.

Meanwhile, on the instructions of the Commanding Officer of 8 Sri Lanka Light Infantry under 141 Infantry Brigade of Security Forces (West), troops of 8 Sri Lanka Light Infantry provided immediate relief to about 50 stranded families who were affected by flood in Yatawatta, Madiya and Gemunu Mawatha areas on 01 May 2022.

Due to prevailing adverse weather condition in the Security Forces (West) Area of Responsibility, relief teams have been deployed to deal with emergencies as per the directions promulgated by the Commander Security Forces (West).
