Upon the request made by the hospital authorities, troops of 14 and 61 Infantry Divisions under Security Force (West) extended their assistance on 08 March 2023, in order to maintain essential health services due to a strike of minor employees at the hospitals that are located in the Security Forces (West) Area of Responsibility.
As per the directions of the Commander Security Forces (West), with the guidance of both General Officer Commandings of 14 and 61 Infantry Divisions as well as their Brigade Commanders, troops assisted the needy hospitals by providing their workforce.
Thereby, the troops from 14 Battalion Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment of 142 Infantry Brigade, 1 Sri Lanka National Guard of 143 Infantry Brigade and 2 (v) Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry of 144 Infantry Brigade belongs to 14 Infantry Division, promptly provided their utmost assistance for the proper functioning of the National Hospital - Colombo, Teaching Hospital - Kurunegala and Mulleriyawa Mental Hospital, respectively, to continue the hospital's daily routine despite the absenteeism among hospital minor staff.
At the same time, troops from 8 Battalion Gemunu Watch under 611 Brigade of 61 Infantry Division were also promptly activated to cover the essential duties of Base Hospital - Balangoda, Base Hospital - Eheliyagoda and Kalthota Hospital.
Further, the respective Commanding Officers of the relevant Battalions closely monitored Army's involvement in this critical situation.
