Responding to an emergency need, around the afternoon hours on 13 March 2023, a contingent of Army personnel belonging to the 8 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment under the 611 Infantry Brigade of 61 Infantry Division of Security Forces (West) assisted to douse a sudden fire that had occurred in two temporary houses that are located near the Ranwella junction in the Kegalle town area.
Following information and the request of the Disaster Management Centre, two Officers and 15 Other Ranks from 8 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, along with the Mawanella Fire Brigade and police personal in Kegalle, hurried to the scene and commenced work to bring the quickly spreading fire under control within a few hours before more damage was caused to the rest of the area.
Commander 611 Infantry Brigade, together with the Commanding Officer of 8 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, closely supervised the task under the directions of the Commander Security Forces (West).
