One officer and ten Other Ranks of 8 Battalion Gemunu Watch under command to the 611 Infantry Brigade of the 61 Infantry Division under the Security Forces (West) on 17 June 2023, assisted in extinguishing a fast-spreading bush-fire in the general forest area of Godakumbura under control after the fire broke out due to an unknown reason.
The timely assistance extended by troops enabled total control of its further spread. The Commanding Officer of the 8 Battalion Gemunu Watch, following the guidelines given by the 611 Brigade Commander, carried out the operation.
