Responding to the need for immediate action, a contingent of Army personnel belonging to 8 Battalion Gemunu Watch of the 611 Infantry Brigade under the 61 Infantry Division of the Security Forces (West) rushed recently, on 22 July 2023, to general area Kongahamankada in Kalthota Divisional Secretariat at around morning hours and doused the bush fire that was fast spreading due to prevailing dry weather.
Army personnel hurried to the scene and commenced work to bring the situation under control at the request of the Divisional Secretary of Kalthota.
Thereby, the fires were totally brought under control by Army personnel within two hours before more damage was caused to the rest of the area.
Further, Brigade Commander 611 Infantry Brigade and Commanding Officer of 8 Battalion Gemunu Watch closely monitored this task as per the directions of the Commander Security Forces (West).
