On 8 February 2023, in commemoration of the 75th anniversary of Independence Day, Army personnel from the 3 (v) Battalion Gamunu Watch of the 613 Infantry Brigade of Security Forces (West) assisted in a beach cleaning project between Matara Rest House and the Browns Hill coastal belt area, with the cooperation of the University of Ruhuna, Irrigation Department, Matara District Scout Association, Marine Environment Protection Authority and the Municipal Council of Matara.
Meanwhile, Army personnel provided their maximum contribution to the success of this beach cleaning project by providing manpower, including one Officer and 20 Other Ranks under the direction of the Commander Security Forces (West) and the guidance of the General Officer Commanding, 61 Infantry Division.
Further, Commander 613 Infantry Brigade along with the Commanding Officer of 3 (v) Battalion Gamunu Watch closely supervised the Army’s contribution.
