WEST TROOPS CONTRIBUTE TO DISASTER RELIEF ACTION

Due to the recent heavy rains and strong winds in the Dagonna, Kadawala, Halgahawelawatta, Katuwellegama, Bobugammana and Palugahawela under Divulapitiya Divisional Secretariat area on 05 July 2023, a series of damage has been caused to 73 houses, two temples and the collapse of trees on the roofs of School buildings and many roads in the area. However, the Army troops, along with various government agencies, including the Disaster Management centre, have been working effortlessly since 06 July 2023 to provide relief and restore normalcy to the affected areas.

Thereby, under the direction of the Commander Security Forces (West) with the guidance of the Commander 14 Infantry Division and the close supervision of the Commander 141 Infantry Brigade, the respective Commanding Officers, around 60 troops from 6 Field Sri Lanka Artillery, 8 Sri Lanka Light Infantry, and 2 (V) Sri Lanka Army Service Corps have been involved in the rescue operations.

This rescue mission included removing fallen trees and debris, assisting in repairing damaged roofs of houses and buildings and ensuring the continuation of essential services in the area. The troops have been working diligently to clear the roads, allowing for the smooth movement of vehicles and pedestrians.

The collaboration between the army troops and other government agencies has been crucial in coordinating rescue operations effectively. The combined efforts have enabled the situation to be brought back to normalcy, providing relief to the affected communities.

Further, the dedication and commitment shown by the Army troops in carrying out their rescue operations deserve commendation. Their efforts have not only helped in restoring infrastructure but have also provided a sense of security and hope to the affected communities.
