Army personnel of 3 (v) Battalion Gemunu Watch serving under the 613 Infantry Brigade, which belongs to 61 Infantry Division, contributed their manpower to the Beach and Coral Reef Cleanup Programme, themed "Sayura Rakina Rella Samaga Ekwa Sayurata Husmak," organized by the Marine Environment Protection Authority (MEPA), Regional Office, Matara, along the Kapparathota coastal belt, Weligama.
Responding to the request made by the Marine Environment Protection Authority with the approval of the Commander Security Forces (West) as well as the instructions of the General Officer Commanding 61 Infantry Division, Army troops provided their contributions to this community project on 10 April 2023. Meanwhile, Brigade Commander 613 Infantry Brigade and Commanding Officer of 3 (V) Battalion Gemunu Watch closely monitored the Army's involvement.
By the way, officials of Weligama Sampath Bank, Weligama Bay Dive Center and Kapparathota NARA - Regional Research Center also assisted in launching this beach clearing programme.
