The dedicated efforts of the Army personnel continue to make a significant impact in the country's environmental conservation initiatives. On 03 July 2023, one officer and 20 Other Ranks of 7 Battalion Gemunu Watch serving under the 142 Infantry Brigade of Security Forces Headquarters (West), joined hands with the Sri Lanka Coastal Guard and the Police environmental protection division to clear the beache of Crow Island.
This beach-clearing project was aimed at preserving and maintaining the pristine beauty of Crow Island, a popular tourist destination known for its stunning coastline and diverse marine life. During the project, all the participants, with their determination and commitment, worked tirelessly to remove debris, garbage, and other pollutants that had accumulated along the shoreline.
Further, this beach-clearing project at Crow Island is just one example of the Army's commitment to environmental conservation. Their active involvement in such initiatives showcases their dedication to protecting the country's natural resources and promoting sustainable development.
Meanwhile, the Commander 142 Infantry Brigade and the Commanding Officer of 7 Battalion Gemunu Watch Closely monitored the Army’s contribution to this community project as per the directions of the Commander Security Forces (West).
