WEST TROOPS BUILD ONE MORE HOUSE FOR DESERVING FAMILY IN KOPIWATTA MATUGAMA AREA

The troops of the 12 Field Engineers Regiment, under the close supervision of the 612 Infantry Brigade and guidance of the 61 Infantry Division of the Security Forces (West), have constructed a new home for a needy family residing in the Kopiwatta area of the Matugama Divisional Secretariat in the Kalutara District. This project was carried out in collaboration with the Matugama Divisional Secretariat and was handed over to the beneficiaries on 22 May 2023.

The story of Mrs. Madasami Manjula, a mother of four children without a father and living in impoverished conditions, came to the attention of the sponsors who wanted to help her. They reached out to the Commander of the Army for manpower and construction skills to build a much-needed home for her. Meanwhile, TDK Trade Links Pvt. Ltd, provided the funds for the project, with technical assistance from the Commander, Security Forces (West), enabling the completion of the project as scheduled.

The success of this project was due to the close coordination of the General Officer Commanding, 61 Infantry Division, who guided the 612 Infantry Brigade and 12 Field Engineers Regiment troops to undertake the task of constructing this house. At the same time, the Chief of Defence Staff office also sponsored the project with Rs. 300,000.00, and around Rs. 486,000.00 was coordinated by the 12 Field Engineers Regiment from donors. Further, the total cost of the project was around Rs. 2400,000.000.

Major General D M K D B Pussella RWP RSP Commander Security Forces (West), graced the auspicious inaugural house-warming as the Chief Guest, together with Major General H M U Herath RWP RSP USP hdmc psc, General Officer Commanding 61 Infantry Division and Brigadier M W S Millagala RWP RSP USP psc, Commander 612 Infantry Brigade.

The day's chief guest and sponsors cut the ribbon at the auspicious time and joined oil-lamp lighting rituals with the beneficiaries in accordance with ancient traditions. Similarly, the chief guest and participants also presented several household gifts to the beneficiaries as incentives. The day's event was attended by several Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks and sponsors.
