Army personnel belonging to 12 Field Sri Lanka Engineers and 1 Sri Lanka Pioneer Corps lent their assistance to find a two and half year old child who has drowned in the 'Ranketa’ river in the Pamankada Suduwella area and disappeared while visiting a relative's house with his parents on 15 April 2023.
In the morning hours on 16 April 2023, in response to the request made by the Officer In Charge of Neluwa Police Station and under the instruction of the Commander Security Forces (West) as well as with the guidance of the General Officer Commanding, 61 Infantry Division, a contingent of Army personnel, including two officers, hurried to the venue and commenced the rescue works together with police personnel and residents in the area. Thereby, at around 11.30, after a tough operation, the aforesaid child was found about 500 meters below the river by Army personnel, who transferred him to the Neluwa Divisional Hospital immediately.
The Brigade Commander of the 612 Infantry Brigade and respective Commanding Officers closely monitored the Army's engagement by giving necessary instructions.
