During 12 – 26 May 2023, the troops of 142 Infantry Brigade of Security Forces (West), in collaboration with police personnel and respective MOH offices, conducted a series of dengue prevention campaigns covering several areas of the Western province. The aim of these campaigns was to reduce the incidence of dengue fever, which had become a major public health issue in the country.
The troops assisted for the campaigns under the direction of the Commander Security Forces (West) along with the General Officer Commanding 14 Infantry Division and the close supervision of 142 Brigade commander and respective Commanding Officers. Further, these projects included cleaning up mosquito breeding sites and educating the public on how to prevent mosquito breeding in their residences, neighborhoods and workplaces.
Through those dengue prevention campaigns, the participants inspected the following locations and areas:
- Maharagama MOH area was assisted by 15 Drone Regiment Sri Lanka Artillery
- Mahanama College and Royal College - Colombo were assisted by 21 Battalion Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment
- Bellanwila MOH area was Assisted by 5 Field Engineer Regiment
- Gunasinghapura, Pettah, Maligawatta and Aluthkade areas were assisted by 7 Battalion the Gemunu Watch
- Bloumendhal, Modara, Kotahena, Mahawatta and Mattakkuliya areas were assisted by 14 Battalion Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment
- Piliyandala MOH area was assisted by 7(v) Battalion Gajaba Regiment
Moreover, those dengue prevention campaigns were a great success, with a significant reduction in the incidence of dengue fever in the Western province. The Sri Lanka Army played a crucial role in the success of these campaigns, demonstrating their commitment to the well-being of the people of Sri Lanka.
