WEST TROOPS ACQUIRE MORE KNOWLEDGE ON SELF-DEFENCE TECHNIQUES

Over the worsening economic crisis, the tense situation has been developed within Sri Lanka. Simultaneously, the Army personnel also have to engage with civilians and Sri Lanka police once they required. Consequently, as soldiers, they must know the use of force to solve problems, the proper use of minimum force, practical and theoretical knowledge of the application of human rights and the law of war, performing their duties. Especially the troops belongs to 61 Infantry Division of Security Forces (West) have faced more sensitive problems while solving those problems, they have to perform their duties as a soldier unarmed or armed soldiers to protecting themselves. Being a soldier, it is extremely important to know unique fighting techniques such as self defence in armed and unarmed with Defence Batten techniques.

Accordingly, as per the instructions given by the General Officer Commanding 61 Infantry Division, Major General W R M N Rathnayake RWP RSP USP ndu and the under close supervision of the Commander 613 Infantry Brigade, Colonel K V I L Jayaweera USP organized a special Commando Tactical workshop from 27 to 29 July 2022 at 61 Infantry Division Headquarters premises, to enhance the Knowledge on both theoretical and practical skills among the Officers and Other Ranks engaging with special duties other than routine duties within the AOR.

The workshop was conducted by the Commander 613 Infantry Brigade and Non-Commissioned Officers who expertized in the subjects. Six Officers and 88 Other ranks belonging to 61 Infantry Division AOR participated in this workshop.
