On the initiative of Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army, and under the guidance of Major General Lanka Amarapala, RWP RSP ndc psc, Commander of Security Forces (West), the Security Forces Headquarters (West) organized a public-spirited blood donation campaign on Thursday, the 26th.
In commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the Sri Lanka Army, the event symbolized the Army’s commitment to serving the nation as part of its social responsibility. The campaign took place at the Army Bodhirajarama Temple in Panagoda.
This charitable initiative aimed to address the ongoing demand for blood donations in Sri Lanka, particularly given the recent challenges faced by the country’s health services. 718 donors, comprising military personnel along with Major General Lanka Amarapala, Commander Security Forces (West) & Colonel Commandant – Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, Major General YABM Yahampath RWP RSP ndu psc the Deputy Commander Security Forces (West), Brigadier WHUD Wijerathna, Director General Army Health Services, Colonel SLS Kumarage USP, Transfusion specialist, Army Hospital Colombo, Other Senior officers, officers, other rankers and civil servants, contributed substantially to replenishing the blood stocks at the National Blood Transfusion Centre.
The National Blood Transfusion Centre, Army Hospital, Colombo, General Hospital Jayawardanepura, Teaching Hospital, Ragama, and Apeksha Hospital Maharagama supported the medical component of the campaign. Major General Lanka Amarapala, reflecting on the significance of the event, remarked, “This campaign not only marks our anniversary but also reinforces our commitment to the health and well-being of our fellow citizens.”
