TROOPS OF SECURITY FORCE (WEST) STEPPED FORWARD TO ASSIST FLOOD AFFECTED PEOPLE
Troops serving under Security Force (West) engaged in immediate rescue and relief efforts in flood and mudslide affected areas of Baddegama, Ududgama Morawaka, Tawalama, Hiniduma, Matara, Mathugama, Bulathsinhala, Kalawana, Kukuleganga, Rathnapura, Eheliyagoda, and Pelmadulla.
By Saturday, (27) Morning, more than 1350 troops of Security Force (West) including Commandos, Special Forces are currently serving in worst-affected areas. Hundreds of displaced people, most of who had been victims of landslides in Pahiyangala in Bulathsinhala, Wewalkadura in Kalawana, Pitakanda in Ayagama, Bogodakanda in Eheliyagoda, Morawakakanda in Morawaka and several other badly-hit areas were evacuated to temporary shelters by Army troops in respective areas. Concurrently, Armored Wheeled Vehicles and Engineer Plant Vehicles have been deployed in worst hit areas for searching, evacuating and relocating some of the flood affected people.
Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe, Commander, Security Forces - (West), visited Neluwa Hiniduma, Akuressa and Bulathsinhala areas in view of direct and meeting the troops at work. Brigadier Sumith Athapathu General Officer Commanding is supervising and coordinating the emergency services in respective areas together with Commanders of 581,582 and 583 Brigades.
