TROOPS LEND HELPING HAND TO STORM-AFFECTED NIKAWERATIYA HOUSEHOLDERS

Troops of the 1 Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) under command to the 143 Brigade of the 14 Division under the Security Force Headquarters-West turned good Samaritans and offered voluntary assistance for repairs of storm-affected houses in Nikaweratiya area on Thursday (12).

Gushing winds and storms that swept across the area caused damages to a large number of roof sheets of houses, walls, etc rendering those inhabitants helpless. On being informed of the chaos, Brigadier Sajith Liyanage, Commander, 143 Brigade on the instructions of the Major General Ranjan Lamahewa, General Officer Commanding, 14 Division and the Major General Chula Abeynayake, Commander, Security Forces-West dispatched troops to attend to the emergency and help the affected in whatever the way possible.

Troops accordingly moved to affected householders and assisted them for repairs. At the same time, troops also repaired affected public property and cleared roads and all by-roads, littered with fallen trees, branches, posts, etc.

The task was carried out under the supervision of the Major P.M.P Costa, Commanding Officer of the 1 SLNG.
