Troops of 61 Infantry Division Committed in Disaster Relief Operations and Honorable Speaker of the Parliament and Honorable State Minister of Defence Observes the ongoing Operation

Mindful of the calamity and damage to public life and property caused by the heavy rains, the Army personnel are continuing their evacuation,rescue and relief services in Matara district.

Troops of 9th Battalion, Sinha Regiment and 3 (V) Gemunu Watch are continuing their assistance in flood relief operations in evacuation, rescue and relief missions including preparing and distributing meals to those who have been trapped due to flood in Matara, Thihagoda, Kamburupitiya and Imaduwa Divisional Secretariat areas. Further troops engaged in transporting personnel in these areas and carried out Rescue Operations facilitating people to save their lives from this disaster situation using boats, tractors and trucks.

Honorable Speaker of the Parliament and Honorable State Minister of Defence visited the area and observed the ongoing operations and discussed with relevant authorities to provide more relief assistance.
