A rapid response by the 3 (V) Battalion Gemunu Watch of 613 Infantry Brigade under Security Forces (West) successfully extinguished a bushfire that broke out in the vicinity of Selwakanda, Viharahena, Deniyaya, on the evening of 6 August 2023, as per the directions of the Commander Security Forces (West).
Upon receiving the distress call from the villagers, the Army personnel wasted no time in mobilizing their resources and swiftly reaching the affected area and extinguishing the fire within a mere two hours. With their coordinated efforts and efficient use of resources, the Army personnel successfully brought the fire under control within the span of just two hours. Their swift and decisive action saved a significant area of land, other than three acres, from potential devastation.
At the same time, this task was closely monitored by the Commanding Officer of 3 (V) Battalion Gemunu Watch under the guidance of the Commander, 613 Infantry Brigade. Further, local villagers were also full of praise for the swift and effective response of Army personnel to this emergency need.
