SRI LANKA ARMY COMPLETES NATIONWIDE BEACH CLEANING DRIVE

The Sri Lanka Army concluded a nationwide beach cleaning campaign on 29 July 2025 under the theme “Beautiful Coastline - An Attractive Tourism Destination.” This initiative, part of the “Clean Sri Lanka” program, aimed to enhance coastal beauty and combat marine pollution.

The official launch was held at Crow Island, Colombo, with the participation of Commander of the Army Lieutenant General B K G M L Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, Commander Security Force (West) Major General U K D D P Udugama, RWP USP ndc psc and other senior officers. Thousands of troops were mobilized across selected coastal regions to remove plastic and solid waste.

This beach cleaning campaign was Organized by Army Headquarters, the drive also involved foreign nationals, local volunteers, and civil organizations, encouraging environmental awareness and community engagement. Troops were trained in eco-friendly practices, including waste segregation and recycling techniques.

Notably, the 14 Infantry Division cleaned 37 beaches, the 57 Infantry Division cleaned 29, and the 61 Infantry Division cleaned 22 beaches. Around 109 officers and 2,840 other rankers actively participated.

The successful campaign highlights the Army’s vital role in national sustainability and preserving Sri Lanka’s coastal and environmental heritage.
