SFHQ-West Deploys 722 Soldiers to Man Emergency Health Services
A total of 18 officers and 704 other rankers serving under the Security Force Headquarters - West (SFHQ-West) are currently engaged in emergency services at state hospitals as a result of the ongoing Trade Union action of a section of the minor staff. \r\n\r\nOn Tuesday (26) on the directions of the Commander of the Army, island-wide troops swiftly undertook the skeletal emergency services following a request, made to that effect by the Ministry of Health through the Ministry of Defence. (See separate Media Communique) \r\n\r\nUnder the supervision of Major General U.A.B. Medawela, Commander, SFHQ-West, the SFHQ-West alone has by Wednesday (27) morning deployed 722 members of the Army in the following state hospitals in order to help maintain most essential services as follows; \r\n\r\nKarapitiya Hospital (26), Elpitiya Hospital (26), Matara Hospital (26), Lady Ridgeway (103), Colombo National Hospital (47), Colombo South Hospital (51), Cancer Hospital (68), Mental Hospital (36), Awissawella Base Hospital (20), Padukka Rural Hospital (10), Kosgama Rural Hospital (10), Kurunegala Hospital (182), Kegalle Base Hospital (29), Chilaw Base Hospital (26) and Panadura Base Hospital (20). \r\n\r\nA few woman soldiers have also been released to the Kegalle Base Hospital in response to their request. \r\n
