SF Commander\'s Intervention Saves Little Daughter\'s Precious Life

In response to a personal and timely intervention of Major General U.A.B Medawela, Commander, Security Force Headquarters - West (SFHQ-West), the life of D.G.N.N. Kumari (4 years) was miraculously saved in a major surgery at the Asiri Surgical Hospital after she was diagnosed, having a heart with two large holes a few weeks ago. The father, Sergeant D.G.R. Wasantha of 1 Sri Lanka Armoured Corps of the SFHQ-West badly disturbed after the diagnosis, was asked to raise at least a sum of Rs 1 million for the surgery, if the surgeon were to save her life by operating on her, but the lack of financial resources for the parents, worked a major setback to the parents. Through officers, Major General U.A.B Medawela was however kept informed of the status quo and the grave danger, posed to the precious life of the sweet toddler whose days for survival are numbered. Major General Medawela through his personal contacts took up the sensitive matter with the Asiri Hospital administration and finally with Dr Vivek Guptha, the well known cardiologist who had on many occasions, extended his free medical service to Army personnel and their family members. Dr Guptha positively responded to the urgent need and agreed to conduct the surgical operation within days on the daughter Kumari free of charge with the support of the Asiri Hospital administration. Everything worked well for the little daughter and the surgery completely cured her with unexpected speed to the overwhelming happiness of the parents and everyone. Major General Medawela after recovery personally paid his tribute to the Asiri Hospital, Dr Guptha and Dr Anil Perera for conduct of the surgery and rescue of the little girl whose life was in danger.
