SECURITY FORCES (WEST) TROOPS SUPPORT TO MAINTAIN HEALTH SERVICES AMID HEALTH SECTOR EMPLOYEES’ TRADE UNION STRIKE

In response to a request from the Health Ministry, with the guidence of the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, under the supervsion of the Commander Security Forces (West), has deployed army personnel to ensure the uninterrupted delivery of essential health services in hospitals following a trade union strike by health sector employees on February 1st, 2024.

Army personnel are actively stationed at the following hospitals: National Hospital Colombo, Kalabowala Hospital, Homagama Base Hospital, Kurunegala Base Hospital, Base Hospital Angoda, Mental Hospital Mulleriya, Colombo East Base Hospital, Balangoda Hospital, Aheliyagoda Hospital, Kegalle Hospital, Bandaragama District Hospital, Matara General Hospital, and Karapitiya Teaching Hospital. Their presence aims to provide support and ensure healthcare services continue without disruptions.

West troops, including Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, Sri Lanka Army Women's Corps, 5 Sri Lanka Engineers, 8 Battalion of Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, 8 Battalion of Gemunu Watch, 21 Battalion of Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, 2 (V) Battalion of Sri Lanka Light Infantry, 2 (V) Battalion of Gemunu Watch, 3 (V) Battalion of Gemunu Watch, 8 Battalion of Sri Lanka National Guard, and 1 Battalion of Sri Lanka Army Pioneer Corps, have been deployed for this operation.
