SECURITY FORCES (WEST) TROOPS STACK SANDBAGS & PREVENT TANK BUND BREACH

1 Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) troops of the 143 Brigade of the 14 Division under the Security Force Headquarters - West on Thursday (25) placing sandbags on the flood-damaged Aluthwewa tank bund renovated it to prevent any further damage to the bund in the general area of Divullegoda in Nikaweratiya.

A length of about 10 m of the tank bund due to recent torrential rains was badly affected causing a water leakage when the Army troops were alerted to the imminent danger of a major disaster if the leakage turned worse. Troops accordingly with the support of farmers and villagers in the area stacked sandbags on the affected bund with the supply of sand and sachets, needed for renovation by the Divisional Secretariat for Nikaweratiya.

On the guidelines given by 143 Brigade Commander, Colonel T.M.F Kitchilan, the 1 SLNG Commanding Officer dispatched a team of 2 Officers and 30 Other Ranks, including Major A.U.K Hettiarachchi and Major M.G.M.S Bandara of 1 SLNG camp for those urgent repairs.
