Major General Lanka Amarapala, RWP RSP ndc psc, officially relinquished his duties as the Commander, Security Forces (West), on February 13th, at the Security Forces Headquarters (West). The decorated officer will assume the prestigious position of Deputy Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army, the third-highest rank in the military hierarchy.
In a traditional military ceremony befitting his distinguished service, Major General Lanka Amarapala was warmly received by the Brigadier General Staff and Brigadier Admin and Quartering of the Security Forces Headquarters (West). The ceremonial proceedings commenced with a Guard Turnout by troops of the 1st Field Engineer Regiment of the Sri Lanka Engineers, followed by an impressive Guard of Honour.
As a token of appreciation for his leadership and dedication, the staff of the Security Forces (West) posed for a commemorative group photograph with the outgoing Commander. The event also featured an all-ranks tea, where Major General Lanka Amarapala had an opportunity to interact with the troops.
Marking the formal handover of responsibilities, Major General Amarapala signed official documents and inscribed a heartfelt message in the Visitors’ Book. His reflections encapsulated his journey with the Security Forces (West) and his hopes for their continued success.

As he transitions to the pivotal role of Deputy Chief of Staff, the Army anticipates his visionary leadership to continue shaping its strategic direction and operational excellence.
