As a result of prevailing adverse weather condition in the Security Forces (West) Area of Responsibility, the public has been in distress due to the contamination of the well water in the Baragama (East) and Baragama (West) Grama Niladari Divisions under the Mulatiyana Divisional Secretariat of Matara district. The polluted water has been caused a great deal of concern among the residents, as it poses serious health risks. In response to this situation, the Commander Security Forces (West) has taken immediate action addressing the problem requested by the residents of the area.
On the instructions of the Commander Security Forces (West), with guidelines of the General Officer Commanding of 61 Infantry Division, a contingent of Army personnel belonging to 613 Infantry Brigade and 3(v) Battalion Gemunu Watch, along with the Civil Affairs Officer of 613 Infantry Brigade, were dispatched to clean the polluted three wells located in aforementioned Grama Nildari divisions with the assistance of the residents in the area on 16 May 2023. The project was closely monitored by the Commander of 613 Infantry Brigade.
