Upon sponsorship extended by Mrs. Shiromi Masakorala, Executive Director of Hemas Group, through the coordination of the Security Forces Headquarters (West) and the 611 Infantry Brigade, a large stock of school items was distributed among 50 needy students studying at St. Mary's Tamil College on 05 January 2023 at school premises.
As per the guidance given by the Commander Security Forces (West), Major General D M K D B Pussella RWP RSP and the close supervision of the Commander 611 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier W M S N Eragoda RWP RSP USP alone with the Commanding Officer of the 8 Battalion Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, Army personnel of the 8 Battalion Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment arranged all the necessaries at the distribution location.
Each pack contained exercise books, stationary items and pairs of shoes with socks, etc to the value of Rs. 2000.00 each pack and the total project cost, including pairs of shoes with socks, was about Rs. 165000.00.
The main aim of this noble project is to upgrade the education of underprivileged school children in the Security Forces (West) area in order to uplift the goodwill between Army and civilians in the area.
Mrs. Himali Pussella, the spouse of the Commander Security Forces (West), President of Sewa Vanitha Unit, Mechanized Infantry Regiment and Lady In charge of Virukekulu pre school - Panagoda with Brigarier W M S N Eragoda RWP RSP USP, the Commander 611 Infantry Brigade graced the distribution event as the chief guests. The event was also attended by the civil affairs officer of 611 Infantry Brigade, senior officers, officers, other ranks, school staff and parents.
