SECURITY FORCES (WEST) HOSTS A LECTURE ON THE CURRENT ISSUES OF DANGEROUS DRUGS USE IN SRI LANKA

The Security Forces Headquarters (West) organized an impactful lecture series and practical sessions in parallel with the Training Day Programme, under the conceptual guidance of the Commander of Security Forces (West), Major General Lanka Amarapala RWP RSP ndc psc. The Programme aimed at enhancing awareness and fostering education among the troops, was conducted by two distinguished professionals. Mr. I M C P Karunarathne, the Media Spokesman and Education/Information Officer of the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board (Ministry of Public Security) and Counseling Psychologist, Mrs. S Nilmini Abeysekara The sessions held at the lecture hall of 4th Regiment of Sri Lanka Artillery on 12 December 2024.

During the sessions, Mr. Karunarathne shared valuable insights into the role of the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board in mitigating the risks and threats associated with drug use. He also elaborated on the preventive measures and strategic interventions implemented by the Ministry of Public Security. Complementing his lecture, Mrs. S Nilmini Abeysekara addressed the psychological and social impact of drug abuse on individuals and communities. Her expertise as a counseling psychologist provided the troops with practical guidance on identifying early warning signs, offering support to affected individuals, and fostering resilience.

08 Officers and 102 Other Rankers under the Security Forces Headquarters (West), together with troops from the Regimental Centers and Units within the Army Cantonment, Panagoda, participated in the training session.
