SECURITY FORCES HEADQUARTERS (WEST) ORGANIZED A LECTURE ON 'MAINTAINING LAW AND ORDER IN PRESENT SECURITY SITUATION WITH COORDINATION BETWEEN THE ARMY AND THE POLICE UNDER THE EXISTING LEGAL FRAMEWORK DURING FIELD OPERATIONS'

In order to enhance the knowledge on the topic of ‘Maintaining law and order in present security situation with coordination between Army and Police under the existing legal framework during field operations’, the Security Forces (West) took steps to conduct a lecture for 360 Army personnel belongs to Security Forces (West) AOR, consisted with 90 Officers and 270 Other Ranks on 12 January 2023, at the Sri Lanka Light Infantry Lecture Hall, Army cantonment-Panagoda. In addition, Officers and Other Ranks belongs to 43 stations under Security Forces (West) also joined for this lecture via zoom technology.

Upon the request made by the Commander, Security Forces (West), Senior. Deputy Inspector General of Police (Crimes & Traffic), Mr. Kamal Silva conducted the lecture session highlighting several aspects, including the sources of the Sri Lankan legal system, Judicial precedent, Classification of Law, Court Hierarchy, Law enforcement powers to the Military, etc for the benefit of officers and Other Ranks. In addition, audience were also given an opportunity to clarify their doubts by having Q & A session at the latter part of the session.

Towards the culmination of the lecture, Major General J M R N K Jayamanna RWP, the General Officer Commanding of 14 Infantry Division expressed the gratitude of the participants by awarding a memento to Mr. Kamal Silva prior to his departure.

This timely important lecture and necessary arrangements were proposed as per the direction of the Commander Security Forces (West), Major General D M K D B Pussella RWP RSP and troops of the Security Forces Headquarters (West), 14 Infantry Division, Regimental Headquarters and Battalions within the Army cantonment, Panagoda were physically participated at the lecture.
