SECURITY FORCES HEADQUARTERS (WEST) ORGANIZED AN AWARENESS PROGRAMME ON HUMAN RIGHTS

As per the direction given by the commander of the Army Lieutenant General H L V M Liyanage RWP RSP ndu and under the close supervision of the Commander Security Forces (West) Major General D M K D B Pussella RWP RSP along with the Director of Directorate of HR & HL, Brigadier T C K Peiris RWP RSP a valuable an awareness programme on Human Rights was organized by the Directorate of HR & HL in cooperation with Security Forces Headquarters (West) on 09 December 2022 at the Regimental Headquarters of Sri Lanka Light Infantry lecture hall, Army cantonment - Panagoda, in accordance with the world Human Rights Day on 10 December 2022.

This timely important lecture has been organized in order to educate Officers and soldiers under Security Forces Headquarters (West) AOR on the importance of Human Rights in modern day context and application of Human Rights on military duties for better results.

The lecture, which consisted with two sessions, was conducted by the Director of Education and special programme of Human Rights Commission in Sri Lanka, Ms.Menaka Herath and the Director of Inquiries & Investigations, Ms. Sulari Liyanagama, respectively. During these lectures, it was deeply discussed on Fundamental Rights, Children’s rights, Prisoners’ rights, Labour rights/ workers’ rights, etc. In addition the participants were also given an opportunity to clarify their doubts during Q & A session.

Moreover, these lectures have been specially designed for the troops of Security Forces (West), as they had dedicated their immense service by covering one-third of the island when engaging with the different pandemic situations, disaster management, social uprising and current economic crisis, etc.

Around 50 officers and 150 Other Ranks who are working in the 14 Infantry AOR and Army Cantonment Panagoda participated for these lectures.
