Following a suggestion, made by the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva, efforts were launched by the Security Force Headquarters - West (SFHQ-West) to give entirely a new facelift to the Panagoda Army Cantonment to coincide with the most recent opening ceremony of the new Gymnasium.
Under the close supervision of the Commander, SFHQ-West, Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe, the beautification project got underway with the intention of providing an attractive and dignified look to the premises, buildings and surroundings.
Erection of a new name board at the main entrance to read as the Panagoda Army Cantonment added elegance and prominence to the complex which has a landmark history.
Similarly, the 1 Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps (SLAOC) canteen and the surroundings were beautified since they are easily visible to anyone entering the premises. At the same time, the guard point at the entrance was completely renovated adding a new look to the troops of the Provost Marshal as sentry points.
In general, all road networks, pavements and other places were given a new facelift with demarcated signs, name tags and repairs to damaged areas including roundabouts.
Among other things that received renovation and repainting included the service station, fuel point, Habarakada main entrance, Muthukumaru monument, water bodies such as ponds and tiny tanks and all other important places.
All those repairs and renovations were carried out at minimal costs and with no burden to the Army and the government.
