The ceremonial opening of several newly completed development projects at the Headquarters of the 16 Infantry Division was held with grandeur on 27 February 2026.
The event marked the inauguration of the newly constructed main entrance gate, the renovated building of the Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police Section, the Guard Room, and the Visitors’ Room. The ceremony also featured the unveiling of a commemorative plaque for the 130 mm Field Gun installed in front of the Officers’ Mess.
These development initiatives have significantly enhanced the professional environment of the Division Headquarters, further strengthening security arrangements, improving administrative efficiency, and promoting the overall welfare of officers and other ranks serving at the headquarters.
The series of events was graced by the General Officer Commanding, 16 Infantry Division, Major General W S V Fernando USP ndu IG, who attended as the Chief Guest. In parallel with the formal proceedings, an all ranks get-together was organized with the objective of fostering camaraderie, unity, and mutual understanding among all ranks.
The occasion was marked by warmth, solidarity, and a strong sense of esprit de corps, reflecting the Division’s continued commitment to excellence and collective progress.
